Slumber of the Old Gods
The most powerful of the gods were the Old Gods, born from the very elements of the world, from its Sky, Earth, and Sea. They were cruel and strong, unloving as the great and terrible world. Life and death were their rewards. And for much time the mortal races clambered into the sun and bowed to their fearsome masters, their gods of High Realm. But all things must end. Even immortals, even the world.
So long as the world yet lives, so too do the Old Gods. But as mortals and beasts grew cunning and brave and powerful, they feared not the world. And so the Old Gods at last withdrew, to slumber, while their children, the New Gods, rose as the new divines.
The Old Gods have merely relinquished dominion of High Realm, not perished, make no mistake. And in a time of great need, when their world and their existence is threatened, they shall surely rise again to rule. Even now, their presence is still felt, and their blessings still sought by a few who know the old ways.
